THE FULL SCOPE

A kitchen remodel is twelve trades, two thousand decisions, and the right team to handle both.

A full kitchen remodel is not a cabinet swap. It is a coordinated sequence of demolition, rough framing, plumbing rough-in, electrical rough-in, drywall, flooring, cabinet installation, countertop templating and fabrication, tile, plumbing finish, electrical finish, paint, hardware, appliance installation, and final cleanup. Twelve trades, in a sequence where each one depends on the one before it being done correctly.

When we say a Century kitchen remodel runs six to ten weeks on site, we mean the full sequence above, not just the part where the cabinets go in. The pre-construction phase, where your designer measures, designs, renders in 3D, and walks you through selections, runs another four to six weeks before demolition begins.

What is included in every Century kitchen remodel:

Design and Selections

A designated designer at our Third Lake showroom who measures your existing kitchen, develops the floor plan and elevations, builds a custom 3D rendering of the finished space at no charge, and walks you through cabinet, countertop, tile, fixture, hardware, and lighting selections in person with real samples in your hand.

Demolition and Prep

Removal of existing cabinetry, countertops, appliances, flooring, and any walls being modified. Dust containment, drop cloths, and floor protection through the rest of the home.

Framing and Structural

Any framing changes for new wall configurations, soffit removal, or load-path modifications. We coordinate with structural engineers when load-bearing changes are involved.

Plumbing and Electrical

Our in-house licensed plumbers and electricians handle rough-in for new sink locations, dishwasher and disposal connections, gas line work for ranges, lighting circuits, dedicated appliance circuits, and any electrical panel updates required by code.

Cabinetry Installation

Cabinet boxes, doors, drawers, hardware, crown molding, light rails, and any built-in details. Our installers are in-house, not subbed out.

Countertops

Templating, fabrication, and installation of quartz, granite, quartzite, marble, or solid-surface counters. Backsplash tile installation.

Flooring

Hardwood, engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, or tile, depending on selection.

Finishes

Paint, trim, lighting installation, plumbing fixture installation, and appliance installation.

Permits and Inspections

We pull permits with your municipality and meet inspectors on site. You do not lose a workday.

Final Walkthrough and Warranty Registration

Punch list completion, final cleaning, and your written limited lifetime warranty filed in your project record.

WHAT A LAKE COUNTY KITCHEN ACTUALLY COSTS

We are the only Lake County remodeler that publishes real pricing. Here is why.

Most kitchen remodelers refuse to publish pricing because every project is different and they do not want to anchor your expectations. We publish pricing because every Lake County buyer asks the same question first, and the right answer should not require a sales call.

Kitchens at Century start at $25,000. The full Lake County pricing range, across all of our markets, runs $25,000 to $200,000 or higher depending on scope, finish level, structural changes, and which Lake County village your home is in. Here is how the range breaks down:

Refresh and Replace

$25,000 to $50,000

A full kitchen renovation that keeps the existing layout in place. New mid-grade American-made cabinetry, quartz counters, tile backsplash, updated lighting, paint, and standard fixture upgrades. Plumbing and electrical stay in their existing locations, which keeps permit complexity and labor manageable. This tier works well for Grayslake, Round Lake, Wadsworth, Antioch, and Mundelein homes built between 1980 and 2010 where the original kitchen is functional but cosmetically dated.

Full Renovation, Same Footprint

$50,000 to $90,000

The most common Lake County kitchen we build. Full cabinet replacement with semi-custom American-made lines, quartz or granite counters, custom tile backsplash, new flooring, full lighting redesign, plumbing and electrical updates including any necessary code upgrades, and full appliance replacement. May include modest layout adjustments such as expanding the island, adding a beverage center, or reconfiguring pantry storage. Typical for Libertyville, Vernon Hills, and Grayslake homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Full Gut with Layout Changes

$90,000 to $150,000

A full-scope remodel that includes structural changes such as removing walls between the kitchen and adjacent family room, repositioning the kitchen footprint, or expanding into adjacent space. Includes premium cabinet lines, quartzite or marble countertops, professional-grade appliance packages, custom lighting design, and full system updates. Common in Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and the upper end of the Libertyville market, particularly in homes built before 1990.

Estate-Scale Kitchen

$150,000 and up

Full custom cabinetry, premium natural stone, professional-grade appliance packages from brands like Wolf and Sub-Zero, structural modifications including load-bearing wall removal, butler's pantry additions, and integration with whole-home or addition projects. Typical for east-side Lake Forest historic homes, estate properties in Lake Bluff, and major whole-home renovations across the upper Lake County market.

Where the budget actually goes

In a typical mid-range Lake County kitchen, the budget breaks down roughly as follows:

30 to 40%

Cabinetry

20 to 25%

Labor

10 to 15%

Countertops

8 to 12%

Plumbing/Electrical

8 to 12%

Appliances

5 to 8%

Flooring

Balance

Tile, Paint, Lighting, Hardware

Permits in Lake County villages typically run $300 to $1,200 depending on scope, materially less than the $1,800 to $5,000 range commonly cited in the City of Chicago. This is one of several reasons Lake County kitchen remodels run lower than Chicago city projects of equivalent finish.

Every Century estimate is itemized line by line. You see the exact dollar allocation for cabinets, countertops, labor, plumbing, electrical, demolition, permits, and every other line of the project before you sign anything.

CABINETS, SURFACES, AND FIXTURES

Every cabinet line we install is one we would put in our own home. Here is how they differ.

The biggest decision you will make in your kitchen remodel is which cabinet line you choose. It accounts for thirty to forty percent of your total budget and defines the look of the finished space. Every line below is American-made, every box is plywood or solid wood, and every door style we recommend has a track record we trust.

Cabinet Lines

Wellborn Forest Products

Tier: Semi-custom to custom. Price tier: Mid to upper.

Family-owned since 1961, manufactured in Ashland, Alabama. Wellborn's Premier and Estate lines are what we recommend for clients who want furniture-grade construction with a wide range of door styles, finishes, and detail options. Solid wood face frames, plywood box construction, dovetail drawer joinery, and soft-close hardware standard. Lead times typically four to six weeks.

Best for: Traditional and transitional Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and Libertyville kitchens where construction quality and finish detail matter most.

Kith Kitchens

Tier: Semi-custom. Price tier: Mid.

American-made semi-custom line with strong color and finish flexibility. Particularly strong on painted finishes and inset door styles. Good fit for transitional kitchens where the homeowner wants a current-trend cabinet look without crossing into custom-only pricing. Lead times typically four to six weeks.

JSI Cabinetry

Tier: Stock to semi-stock. Price tier: Value.

The line we recommend when budget is the primary driver and the homeowner wants a fully assembled, plywood-box, soft-close cabinet without the upcharge of a semi-custom line. JSI's stained finishes are less refined than the upper tiers, but the construction quality is solid and the price point is meaningfully below Wellborn or Kith.

Best for: Grayslake, Round Lake, and Antioch projects where a Tier 1 or Tier 2 budget is the constraint.

US Cabinet Depot

Tier: Semi-stock. Price tier: Value.

Similar value positioning to JSI with a different door style and finish library. Useful when a client likes a particular USCD finish that does not match across other lines.

Woodland Cabinetry

Tier: Semi-custom. Price tier: Mid.

American-made with strong shaker and recessed-panel options. Particularly strong for transitional kitchens and laundry room or mudroom secondary cabinetry that needs to color-match the kitchen.

Superior, Legend, and Other In-House Lines

Multiple Lines Available

We carry several additional cabinet partners depending on the project. During your design consultation, your designer will recommend the line best matched to your style, budget, and timeline.

Countertop Surfaces

Cambria

Quartz | US-made

The premium quartz line we recommend most often. Made in Le Sueur, Minnesota. Lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. Wide range of patterns including marble-look options that perform better than actual marble in a working kitchen.

MSI Q Quartz

Quartz | Value

Strong value option in the quartz category with a deep pattern library. Good fit when a Cambria pattern does not match the design or when budget is a constraint.

LG Viatera

Quartz

Reliable quartz line with consistent performance. Strong availability and predictable lead times.

Vicostone

Quartz

Premium engineered quartz with European design influence. Good fit for contemporary kitchens.

Corian

Solid Surface

Useful for specific applications including seamless integrated sinks and rounded edge profiles. Less common in current Lake County kitchens but still selected for certain transitional and contemporary designs.

Granite, Marble, and Quartzite

Natural Stone | Premium

Sourced through our fabricator partners. Templating and installation by the same team that handles all stone work. Marble and quartzite carry maintenance considerations we walk through during selection.

Plumbing Fixtures

Kohler, Moen, Delta, and Grohe. We work with all four lines and select based on the design direction and the client's preference between traditional and contemporary fixture profiles. Faucet, sink, disposal, and pot-filler installation all coordinated by our in-house plumbers.

Bath Vanities

Bertch is our primary bath vanity partner for kitchen-adjacent powder rooms and bath remodels included in the same project. Made in Waterloo, Iowa, with a wide range of door styles and finishes.
