THE FULL SCOPE
WHAT A LAKE COUNTY KITCHEN ACTUALLY COSTS
Most kitchen remodelers refuse to publish pricing because every project is different and they do not want to anchor your expectations. We publish pricing because every Lake County buyer asks the same question first, and the right answer should not require a sales call.
Kitchens at Century start at $25,000. The full Lake County pricing range, across all of our markets, runs $25,000 to $200,000 or higher depending on scope, finish level, structural changes, and which Lake County village your home is in. Here is how the range breaks down:
A full kitchen renovation that keeps the existing layout in place. New mid-grade American-made cabinetry, quartz counters, tile backsplash, updated lighting, paint, and standard fixture upgrades. Plumbing and electrical stay in their existing locations, which keeps permit complexity and labor manageable. This tier works well for Grayslake, Round Lake, Wadsworth, Antioch, and Mundelein homes built between 1980 and 2010 where the original kitchen is functional but cosmetically dated.
The most common Lake County kitchen we build. Full cabinet replacement with semi-custom American-made lines, quartz or granite counters, custom tile backsplash, new flooring, full lighting redesign, plumbing and electrical updates including any necessary code upgrades, and full appliance replacement. May include modest layout adjustments such as expanding the island, adding a beverage center, or reconfiguring pantry storage. Typical for Libertyville, Vernon Hills, and Grayslake homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s.
A full-scope remodel that includes structural changes such as removing walls between the kitchen and adjacent family room, repositioning the kitchen footprint, or expanding into adjacent space. Includes premium cabinet lines, quartzite or marble countertops, professional-grade appliance packages, custom lighting design, and full system updates. Common in Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and the upper end of the Libertyville market, particularly in homes built before 1990.
Full custom cabinetry, premium natural stone, professional-grade appliance packages from brands like Wolf and Sub-Zero, structural modifications including load-bearing wall removal, butler's pantry additions, and integration with whole-home or addition projects. Typical for east-side Lake Forest historic homes, estate properties in Lake Bluff, and major whole-home renovations across the upper Lake County market.
In a typical mid-range Lake County kitchen, the budget breaks down roughly as follows:
30 to 40%
Cabinetry
20 to 25%
Labor
10 to 15%
Countertops
8 to 12%
Plumbing/Electrical
8 to 12%
Appliances
5 to 8%
Flooring
Balance
Tile, Paint, Lighting, Hardware
Permits in Lake County villages typically run $300 to $1,200 depending on scope, materially less than the $1,800 to $5,000 range commonly cited in the City of Chicago. This is one of several reasons Lake County kitchen remodels run lower than Chicago city projects of equivalent finish.
Every Century estimate is itemized line by line. You see the exact dollar allocation for cabinets, countertops, labor, plumbing, electrical, demolition, permits, and every other line of the project before you sign anything.
CABINETS, SURFACES, AND FIXTURES
The biggest decision you will make in your kitchen remodel is which cabinet line you choose. It accounts for thirty to forty percent of your total budget and defines the look of the finished space. Every line below is American-made, every box is plywood or solid wood, and every door style we recommend has a track record we trust.
Tier: Semi-custom to custom. Price tier: Mid to upper.
Family-owned since 1961, manufactured in Ashland, Alabama. Wellborn's Premier and Estate lines are what we recommend for clients who want furniture-grade construction with a wide range of door styles, finishes, and detail options. Solid wood face frames, plywood box construction, dovetail drawer joinery, and soft-close hardware standard. Lead times typically four to six weeks.
Best for: Traditional and transitional Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and Libertyville kitchens where construction quality and finish detail matter most.
Tier: Semi-custom. Price tier: Mid.
American-made semi-custom line with strong color and finish flexibility. Particularly strong on painted finishes and inset door styles. Good fit for transitional kitchens where the homeowner wants a current-trend cabinet look without crossing into custom-only pricing. Lead times typically four to six weeks.
Tier: Stock to semi-stock. Price tier: Value.
The line we recommend when budget is the primary driver and the homeowner wants a fully assembled, plywood-box, soft-close cabinet without the upcharge of a semi-custom line. JSI's stained finishes are less refined than the upper tiers, but the construction quality is solid and the price point is meaningfully below Wellborn or Kith.
Best for: Grayslake, Round Lake, and Antioch projects where a Tier 1 or Tier 2 budget is the constraint.
Tier: Semi-stock. Price tier: Value.
Similar value positioning to JSI with a different door style and finish library. Useful when a client likes a particular USCD finish that does not match across other lines.
Tier: Semi-custom. Price tier: Mid.
American-made with strong shaker and recessed-panel options. Particularly strong for transitional kitchens and laundry room or mudroom secondary cabinetry that needs to color-match the kitchen.
Multiple Lines Available
We carry several additional cabinet partners depending on the project. During your design consultation, your designer will recommend the line best matched to your style, budget, and timeline.
Quartz | US-made
The premium quartz line we recommend most often. Made in Le Sueur, Minnesota. Lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. Wide range of patterns including marble-look options that perform better than actual marble in a working kitchen.
Quartz | Value
Strong value option in the quartz category with a deep pattern library. Good fit when a Cambria pattern does not match the design or when budget is a constraint.
Quartz
Reliable quartz line with consistent performance. Strong availability and predictable lead times.
Quartz
Premium engineered quartz with European design influence. Good fit for contemporary kitchens.
Solid Surface
Useful for specific applications including seamless integrated sinks and rounded edge profiles. Less common in current Lake County kitchens but still selected for certain transitional and contemporary designs.
Natural Stone | Premium
Sourced through our fabricator partners. Templating and installation by the same team that handles all stone work. Marble and quartzite carry maintenance considerations we walk through during selection.
Kohler, Moen, Delta, and Grohe. We work with all four lines and select based on the design direction and the client's preference between traditional and contemporary fixture profiles. Faucet, sink, disposal, and pot-filler installation all coordinated by our in-house plumbers.
Bertch is our primary bath vanity partner for kitchen-adjacent powder rooms and bath remodels included in the same project. Made in Waterloo, Iowa, with a wide range of door styles and finishes.
DESIGN FROM YOUR COUCH
Most homeowners cannot picture the finished kitchen until the project is half done. Our online Kitchen Visualizer lets you mock up cabinet door styles, finish colors, countertop materials, tile backsplash patterns, and hardware combinations from your phone or laptop. No login. No salesperson. No pressure.
You can save your designs, screenshot the combinations you like, and bring them into your free showroom consultation as a starting point. Most clients who use the visualizer arrive at their first meeting with a clear sense of which cabinet finish and countertop pairing they want to refine, which makes the design phase faster and more focused.
