WHY GRAYSLAKE HOMEOWNERS CHOOSE CENTURY

Most remodelers drive in from somewhere else. Our trucks have been parked here since the year the Lake County Fair moved to its current grounds.

Grayslake's housing stock is mostly newer than people assume. The median construction year is 1994, and roughly twenty percent of all homes were built between 2000 and 2009 in the wave of subdivisions that followed the Carillon active-adult community, College Trail, Wooded Glen, Meadows of Grayslake, and Prairie Crossing's sustainability-driven development.

Newer Construction (1990s–2009)

That construction era brings its own renovation patterns. Builder-grade cabinetry from the late 1990s that is now twenty-five to thirty years old. Original primary baths designed around the 1990s garden-tub-and-separate-shower formula that no one wants anymore. The renovation typically focuses on cabinet replacement, surface updates, and opening up floor plans to modern standards.

Older Grayslake (Prewar–1980s)

A smaller but meaningful portion of Grayslake's housing is older. The original downtown core near Center Street and Whitney Street includes prewar homes, and Arbor Vista, Saddlebrook Farms, and several pockets near Grays Lake itself include earlier construction with floor plans, framing, and mechanical systems that need a different kind of attention.

Why Century

We know all of this because we have worked across this Village for decades. Steve Donato has owned Century Kitchens & Bath since taking over the family business, and our team answers the phone at (847) 395-3418. Every estimate is itemized line by line, like a menu, so you can see exactly where every dollar goes before you sign anything.

We do not run promotional gimmicks like free refrigerators with a kitchen purchase. We run a written limited lifetime warranty on every product and service we install, and we have been doing it that way since 1968.

WE KNOW THIS VILLAGE

From the downtown core to Saddlebrook Farms, we have worked across Grayslake.

Grayslake covers 9.4 square miles of central Lake County, anchored by Grays Lake itself and tied together by the Center Street downtown core. Each subdivision has its own construction era and renovation pattern.

The downtown core near Center Street and Whitney Street includes prewar homes with original framing, plaster in some homes, and layout patterns from an era when Grays Lake was still the main draw. Saddlebrook Farms is a 55-and-over community where most renovations involve aging-in-place modifications: zero-threshold showers, comfort-height vanities, wider doorways.

Prairie Crossing is a nationally recognized sustainable development emphasizing material continuity with original design intent. Carillon North, College Trail, Wooded Glen, and Meadows of Grayslake are the late-1990s and 2000s subdivisions with builder-grade cabinetry now twenty-five to thirty years old and ready for replacement.

If your home is on a Grayslake street and we have not named your subdivision, call (847) 395-3418. We will tell you exactly what to expect before you sign anything.

PERMITS, INSPECTIONS, AND THE VILLAGE PROCESS

We have been pulling permits at Grayslake Village Hall longer than most local contractors have been in business.

The Village of Grayslake Building Department reviews permit applications, conducts inspections, and enforces local building codes for residential renovation work. Most kitchen and bathroom projects that involve plumbing relocations, electrical changes, or structural modifications require a permit. We pull every permit your project requires, schedule the inspections, and meet the inspectors at the home so you do not lose a workday.

For homes in HOA-governed subdivisions including Carillon North, College Trail, Saddlebrook Farms, Asters on Almond, and Prairie Crossing, exterior modifications and certain interior changes may also require HOA architectural review. We coordinate the submission package on the homeowner's behalf, including drawings, material samples, and any required documentation.

For homes in or near the Grayslake Heritage District near Center Street, additional Village review may apply for exterior changes. We confirm the scope of any required review with Village staff before you commit to a design direction.

If your project involves the Lake County Health Department for septic or well work, we coordinate that as well.
